Suggested problems: All chapter 1 problems except 9-12, 28, 35, 45, 48. Homework #1: Chapter 1 problems: 31-34, 36, 38, 41, 42, 46, 47, 50-54 (There is an obvious typo in 1.42(d), the "=" after P2 should be "+") ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Week 2 (May 22/24/26): Reading: Sections 2.1-2.3 Homework #2: Chapter 2 problems: 1-34 Problems 1 and 2 from the 2009-2015 MS exams. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Week 3 (May 31, June 2): Reading: Sections 3.1-3.5 * Inequalities (sections 3.6 and 4.7): The most important ones are: Markov, Chebychev, Cauchy-Schwartz, Jensen. The proofs of these inequalities are not important. What is important is to learn what they say and where/when/how to apply them. Focus on the examples.
