The Collaboration with Pakistan began with planning in 1993, and continued as four US scientists visited Pakistan, January 1994, to develop a protocol and forms for an intervention study for households. The study is designed to see if education can increase knowledge and attitudes about CVD and secondarily to see if modifying saturated fat and salt intake can reduce the levels of hypertension and other CVD risk factors. The study began pilot testing in the fall of 1994, and has screened nearly 400 households. The intervention began in 1996 and will be evaluated over a 4 year period. Screening camp 2 began in 1997 and should be completed in mid 1998.
